Blessing & Handover St. Patrick’s Catholic Church – Parish Centre (Hillsborough)
St. George’s, Grenada; March 11, 2020: The parishoners of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Hillsborough, as well as the general public in Carriacou, can now boast of a new Parish Centre, thanks in part to the contribution made by Republic Bank, under its Power to Make A Difference Programme.
In 2019, the Bank responded positively to a call for assistance to rebuild the Centre after it was destroyed by Hurricane Ivan in 2004. A ceremony to mark the completion of work was held Wednesday, March 11th. Mr. Mc Kie Griffith, Manager – Retail Services, Republic House Cluster delivered remarks on behalf of the Bank. He commented: “Republic Bank recognizes the important role the Church plays in our society, and we see our contribution to this initiative as “well-invested”. This is a gesture we can never truly quantify. For us, $40,000 may be considered a small investment, however if through the use of this centre, the church is able to facilitate training sessions for youth, fund raising initiatives for worthwhile community projects as well as other positive community-based activities, then the value of our contribution is multiplied a hundredfold.”
Consideration for this project was given with the acknowledgement that the Church makes a great social impact in our communities, and the Bank is pleased to have contributed to bringing the parish centre to a fully functional state. Through community partnerships like this one, namely the Bank, the Church, and the contractor, Mr. James Stafford, wonderful projects like this can happen.
In the past Carriacou has benefitted from the Power to Make A Difference programme, receiving assistance with projects like the Bishop’s College Technical Lab in 2006, as well as ongoing support for the Carriacou Maroon and Regatta Festivals.
