#BreakTheBias International Women’s Day 2022
The broad overarching theme for International Women’s Day 2022, provided a global call to action for all to work towards creating a gender equal world, raising awareness against bias, taking action for equality and creating a world that’s diverse, equitable and inclusive.
The support for International Women’s Day, in real and meaningful ways, has become the global status quo, and Grenada’s corporate community continues to keep in step, embracing and recognizing this significant date with actions as well as words.
Lorice Pascal of Soroptimists Grenada, an organization which, for over fifty years has been devoted to the cause of abused and vulnerable women shared; “during the latter part of 2021 we were able to devote some significant time to the students of the Social Development Centre in Grand Anse. Our discussions around empowerment issues and gender-based violence culminated in a joint venture to leave a visible representation of matters discussed, and action to be taken. You can visit the mural the girls created, close to the Catholic Church in Grand Anse. Its message is clear. The funds donated to us, from CIBC FirstCaribbean International Bank, for IWD 2022 will allow us to gift “dignity packs” to the young women for their personal health and hygiene. We are very grateful for the years of ongoing support from the bank”. The bank will also support the Soroptimist’s series of career days during March, which will include a panel discussion on Economic Empowerment.
A visit, donation and gift items were also received by Girls Home under the auspices of the Child Protection Authority. Residents ranging from 12 – 18 years old, receive not only a safe haven, providing food, clothing and shelter, but also the necessary life and social skills, ensuring their education, and wherever possible, transitioning them into the world of gainful employment.
Anglican High School Form 4 students studying Principles of Business (POB) were treated to a hands-on session with the bank, in which matters such as; cheque negotiation, bill of exchange and supporting areas of business were discussed. The girls and staff received gift tokens and a donation towards their much anticipated 2022 sporting events. CIBC FirstCaribbean Business Banking Manager Tanatha Belfon concluded the two days of visits and donations saying; we are particularly pleased that this International Women’s Day, we were able to reach out to several institutions and numerous young women, not only with donations, but spending time with them, listening to them and sharing our own life experience as well as banking expertise. As women we owe each other this solidarity and support, not only on March 8th each year, but always,” she concluded.
