ST. GEORGE’S, GRENADA, APRIL 20, 2023; The Ministry of Agriculture and Lands, Fisheries and Cooperatives advises that following consultations with the Fire Department of the Royal Grenada Police Force, Burn Permits will NOT be issued with IMMEDIATE EFFECT and until further notice. This is necessary due to the extremely dry spells being experienced and the predictions of dry weather conditions for the upcoming months.

The public will be advised when Burn Permits will again be issued.

Please be reminded that in accordance with the Agricultural Fires Act Chapter 6 of the 2010 Continuous Revised Laws of Grenada, any person desirous of setting fire on land which is under cultivation, or in the course of preparation for agricultural purposes, must apply in writing to the Chief Extension Officer or any officer authorised by the Chief Extension Officer for a licence to set a fire.

Any person who sets fire to, or procures, aids, or abets the setting of fire on any land without the appropriate permit can be both fined and imprisoned. Furthermore, the Laws of Grenada require every person who intends to set fire, or to cause a fire to be set, to give notice to all neighbouring households.

The penalty for non-adherence to the above shall be a fine of ECD $500 and imprisonment of up to three (3) months.
