BRIDGETOWN, Barbados – The High Commission of Canada is pleased to announce the contribution of CAD82,620 to two Grenadian organizations — the Grenada Planned Parenthood Association and GrenCHAP Inc. — through the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI). These new projects will strengthen sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) services in Grenada, and increase public awareness of human rights through community outreach.

Canada awarded CAD49,905 to the Grenada Planned Parenthood Association to pilot a one- stop centre for SGBV survivors in Grenada. This CFLI project provides a safe space for persons who have experienced SGBV to access client-centred medical and social services. Funding will support the training of GPPA clinical staff and hospital healthcare providers in survivor-focused care as well as the upgrading of facilities at the designated centre.

The CFLI is providing CAD32,715 to GrenCHAP Inc. for the delivery of a training program and communications campaign aimed at building awareness around human rights and SGBV in Grenada. GrenCHAP Inc. will provide training to 15 community mobilizers on Grenada’s Domestic Violence Act 2010, the International Bill of Human Rights, and social and emotional learning for the delivery of 14 community forums across Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique.

The Canada Fund for Local Initiatives is a program designed to support small-scale, high-impact projects in developing countries that align with the Government of Canada’s thematic priority areas for engagement. The High Commission of Canada received proposals from civil society organizations across four eligible countries in the Eastern Caribbean, administering CAD300,000 in available funding. Other successful 2023-2024 CFLI project partners include the Lifeline Ministries Inc., MiRiDom, Kibe’kuati Inc., Raise Your Voice Saint Lucia Inc., Girls of a Feather, and RedRoot SVG Inc. The 2023 CFLI beneficiaries join the East Dominica Children’s Federation and Equal Rights Access and Opportunities SVG Inc. which conclude their project activities this year.

The projects in Grenada advance key foreign policy priorities for Canada in the Eastern Caribbean, including promoting gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls, combatting sexual and gender-based violence, and protecting the human rights of all individuals.
