Caribbean Governments Adopts Covid-19 Technology Platform From Amber Group

- St. Lucia, British Virgin Islands (BVI), Turks & Caicos Islands (TCI), and Grenada partner with Amber Group for Covid-19 Pandemic Management Solution
As the Caribbean gets ready for the start of the traditional tourism season, several Governments have turned to technology adoption, to manage travel authorization and border management. To date, Jamaica, St. Lucia, TCI, the BVI, and Grenada are implementing an electronic health-risk, travel authorization system that was developed by, Amber Group, a technology conglomerate based in Jamaica.
“Ensuring the safety of our citizens and visitors is of paramount importance to the Government of the Turks and Caicos Islands” said Cheryl Jones, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Tourism, TCI. “We are very pleased to work with the Amber Group to launch their Covid-19 technology solutions. We feel that this solution will be a critical component in helping to manage the pandemic, especially as we move into the traditional tourist season to get us ready to host returning residents and visitors alike”, she concluded.
The solution, a comprehensive, interactive, simple to manage and use website and mobile application (app), is one of the world’s first technology health-risk, travel authorization systems. It enables Governments to pre-approve travelers and control entry into the country while managing the country’s Covid-19 health cases. Through a seamless digital link across Ministries and other Agencies, Governments are able to seamlessly screen visitors before they arrive in the country; It also enables the linking of initial screening information entered by visitor to immigration checkpoints and build a secure digital health folder on each person entering the country. Authorized officials can digitally record high risk cases, isolate where necessary and track those who came in close contact with affected persons to better manage risk.
Through the solution’s tracking, tracing and geo-fencing features, authorities can also implement relevant quarantine requirements to safeguard the wider population. In cases where individuals are placed in quarantine, the technology enables random video check-ins and alerts when breeches to geo-fencing occurs. In addition, citizens and visitors are able to self-report their health status, book appointments for testing, if they are exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 and request emergency services, such as the police or ambulance services. The electronic, health-risk, travel authorization solution was first implemented in Jamaica in March of 2020. Since then several other Governments in the region are utilizing the solution because of the ease of implementation and the safeguard and security it offers. “With each iteration and deployment across the region, we continue to add new enhancements to the overall platform,” said Dushyant Savadia, Founder and Group CEO of Amber. “We are proud of what we have accomplished and the part we are playing to help the region during this time of crisis”, said Savadia.
