CARICOM Celebrates Jamaica’s 58th Independence Anniversary
(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has congratulated the Government and People of Jamaica on the occasion of the country’s 58th Anniversary of Independence on 6 August 2020.
“The choice of theme for this year’s celebration “Resilient and Strong … Let’s Celebrate Jamaica 58”, reflects the national qualities that undergird the spirit and buoyancy of the People of Jamaica,” CARICOM Secretary-General Ambassador Irwin LaRocque said in a congratulatory message to Jamaica’s Prime Minister Hon. Andrew Holness.
“These qualities are particularly important to confront the diverse challenges of these times of uncertainty arising from the global COVID-19 pandemic,” the Secretary-General said.
He noted that the prowess and accomplishments of Jamaicans in a diversity of fields, including the arts, sport and diplomacy, continue to burnish national pride and strengthen the sense of self.
“The Caribbean Community looks forward to benefitting from Jamaica’s continued leadership and experience as the regional integration process advances,” Ambassador LaRocque said.
“CARICOM joins in celebrating this milestone, and extends its sincere wishes for Jamaica’s further progress and prosperity,” the congratulatory said.
