Connections Through Giving
Over the past 20 years, Guardian General Insurance (OECS) Ltd. has upheld its humanitarian tradition of providing funding to institutions dedicated to caring for the needy and underprivileged, an act that was not daunted by this year’s unprecedented events.
Recently, the company invited one of these eleven organisations to an official handover ceremony to signal its ongoing commitment to charitable organisations. The annual gathering which usually provides an occasion for such organisations to share their experiences, highlight their accomplishments and show appreciation to the corporate community, was postponed in adherence to the current established health protocols related to the current pandemic.
Mrs. Noni Francis, spokesperson for Stewards for the Poor, who collected on behalf of all the beneficiaries stated, “We are very thankful for the continued support. I am quite certain that all of our charitable institutions have been adversely affected by the ripple outcomes of the pandemic.” She further opined that, “naturally the level of donations, and by extension the assistance we can provide, has suffered as the entire island community struggles with the effects of economic uncertainty resulting from Covid-19 conditions. However, this makes such donations even more remarkable and noteworthy”.
Guardian General Insurance (OECS) Ltd. recognizes that the scaling down of the ceremony is yet another indicator of the different lifestyle now imposed upon us, nevertheless it does not mean that we have to be different in our generosity towards others. In fact, the so-called “new normal” now presents more opportunities to give as there is a heightened awareness of the pressing need of families, individuals and other organisations during these uncertain and challenging times.
Mr. Ronald Hughes, Managing Director at Guardian General Insurance (OECS) Ltd. affirmed that, “As a responsible corporate citizen it is our duty to assist those who are less fortunate than ourselves. Even though it has not been an easy year for any of us, we are very happy that we still have been able to find the resources to make this donation possible. It is our sincere hope that next year will be a better and brighter year for us all, and that we will be able to continue in this tradition of giving to the needy and vulnerable, which has always given us both pleasure and a sense of pride.” The organisations who are recipients of the $22,000.00 donation are: Fr. Hilarion Cheshire Home, School for the Deaf, Society of St. Vincent De Paul, Bel Air Home, Grenada Community Development Agency, Queen Elizabeth Home for Children, The Society of Friends of the Blind, The Dorothy Hopkin Centre for the Disabled, Grenada Save the Children Development Agency, Stewards of the Poor Grand Anse Gardens Home for the Aged.
