Financial Information Month – October 2020
The Eastern Caribbean Currency Union member governments have designated the month of October as Financial Information Month (FIM).
During the month the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank in collaboration with commercial banks, other financial institutions, Ministries of Finance, Ministries of Education and the media implement initiatives aimed at preparing citizens to make prudent financial decisions that enable improvement in the quality of life.
The campaign, which began in 2002, is executed each year in October. The theme is: “Financial Empowerment through Education”.
This year, the focus is on resilience in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. The tagline is: Building Financial Resilience in the COVID-19 Environment.
The activities throughout the month will provide the public with information on the following subthemes:
- Living Through ‘Rainy Days’: How to Manage Your Money in Challenging Times
Times of crisis can bring uncertainty for many reasons, and the current COVID-19 pandemic is no exception. Discussions will offer guidance on: management of available resources, creation of priority spending plans, dealing with creditors and recovering strong.
2. It’s Happening Online: Using the Internet as a Tool in the New Normal
With the advent of social and physical distancing, we were forced to seek new ways to connect with others and conduct our personal transactions. This area of focus will address how the internet has become an essential tool in all facets of our daily lives, creating a new normal.
3. Creating Opportunities from Covid19
FIM activities in Grenada include radio discussions on the sub-themes, airing daily financial tips, a virtual workshop for small business owners in St.Patrick and St.Andrew and a virtual Money Management Presentation for Public Officers.
The ECCB, financial institutions and other networking partners continue to champion the FIM campaign in furtherance of the goal to achieve a financially developed and vibrant Eastern Caribbean Currency Union that fosters strong and sustainable economic growth and the improved well-being of the residents and citizens.
