Government Issues Travel Advisory as COVID-19 Gets Closer
As the Coronavirus (COVID-19) gets closer to home, the government of Grenada has issued a travel advisory for countries such as Italy, Iran, South Korea, China, and Germany.
Speaking at the weekly press briefing on Tuesday minister for health Nicholas Steele warned Grenadians to avoid all nonessential travel to these high-risk locations.
This, as Jamaica on Tuesday, reported its first imported case of the virus. The report said that a female who traveled from the United Kingdom, which has cases of COVID-19, and showed symptoms of the virus, was tested and taken into isolation
Steele also warned that Grenadians traveling from these countries would be quarantined for 14 days upon arrival while non-nationals will be denied entry.
He also advised that people with flu-like symptoms to remain at home and that people practice proper hand hygiene, proper cough and sneeze etiquette and social distancing.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) has reported that the world now faces a pandemic where over 100,000 cases have been reported in 100 countries over the weekend. However of all the cases reported globally, 93% are from just four countries.
WHO along with the International Federation of the Red Cross (IFRC) and UNICEF on Tuesday issued new guidance to help protect children and schools from transmission of the COVID-19.
The guidance provides critical considerations and practical checklists to keep schools safe. It also advises national and local authorities on how to adapt and implement emergency plans for educational facilities
