Grenada to Celebrate 30-Year Partnership with British Airways
(St. George’s, Grenada) 30th March, 2017— Grenada will celebrate its 30-year partnership with British Airways (BA) on Saturday 1st April, 2017. A commemoration ceremony has been planned for Saturday at 3:00pm at the Maurice Bishop International Airport to coincide with the flight scheduled that day. The ceremony will feature speeches from the Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Hon. Clarice Modeste-Curwen, Chairman of the Grenada Tourism Authority Mr. Rodney George and British Airways District Manager for the Central Caribbean Nigel Blackett. Following the ceremony, visitors arriving on BA will be welcomed with refreshments compliments Summer Juice and Westerhall Rum and sweet steel pan music.
Thirty years ago, the sterling partnership between Pure Grenada and British Airways began with the inaugural flight landing at the then Point Salines International Airport on 1st April, 1987. At that time BA provided one weekly flight, but today the number of flights has increased to two per week. British Airways plays a significant role in Grenada’s Tourism industry as one of the consistent carriers to and from the UK, which is the second largest source market.
Even more reason to celebrate is the fact that three of the islands hotels who partner with BA are also celebrating 30 years of operation this year. They are the Spice Island Beach Resort, Calabash Luxury Boutique Hotel and Spa and Coyaba Beach Resort. As part of the commemoration ceremony, British Airways officials will present tokens of appreciation to the hotels.
