Grenada Highly Rated for Proportion of Female Parliamentarians
January 10, 2019 – Grenada is highly rated among countries worldwide for the proportion of women in parliament.
Seven of Grenada’s fifteen parliamentary representatives, the equivalent of about 47%, are women. Four women also serve among the current group of senators.
At the Post-Election Seminar facilitated by the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association which wrapped up here today, Director of Operations,
He further noted
The commendable statistic resonates well with Prime Minister, Dr. the Right Honourable Keith Mitchell who acknowledged that “the power of women is recognised globally but here in Grenada, that power takes on extra significance.”
One session in the just concluded seminar focused on the subject of “Women in Parliament” and included discussion points such as challenges on the road to parliament, obstacles to equal representation and cultural, institutional and economic obstacles and psychological barriers.
