Grenada’s Lindon Victor Throws for Gold
Putting the spotlight back on the island of Grenada is 25-year-old Lindon Victor as he captured the Men’s Decathlon Gold Medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia earlier this week with a total of 8303 points.
Victor superseded the expectations of many including his fellow competitors and was able to capture first place in the Javelin Throw, Discuss Throw, Pole Vault, and Shot Put; giving him a notably remarkable come-back from the 2014 Commonwealth Games, where he finished in ninth position overall.
Victor’s series of wins at the Heats in the throws put him at an advantage over the 2014 Commonwealth Games winner, Damian Warner of Canada. After failing to clear the height in the Pole Vault, Warner’s chance of taking home a medal dropped as he fell to sixth place, leaving him and his Canadian teammates dismayed. However, Canada’s Pierce LePage managed to cop silver with 8171 points. He was followed by Australia’s Cedrick Dubler and Grenada’s Kurt Felix with 7983 points and 7756 points, respectively.
The 2018 Commonwealth Games are being held at the Carrara Stadium, Gold Coast Australia, where over 6000 athletes from 71 Commonwealth countries are competing from April 4-15.
Unofficial congratulations from the Government of Grenada have since been extended to Grenada’s top Decathletes Lindon Victor and his brother Kurt Felix for their recent accomplishments in the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
