Grenada’s National Swim Team Heads to The XXXII Carifta Championships With Largest Team to Date
The Grenada Amateur Swimming Association (GASA) has named a Thirteen (13) member team to attend this year’s Carifta Swimming Championships from April 15th to 19th to be held at the Betty Kelly Kenning National Swim Complex in the Bahamas. Grenada will be among 25 other countries competing and will on this occasion consist of both pool and open water competitors.
According to President of the Association, Nigel Ollivierre “As we continue to grow and develop our swimmers, this event is important in giving both our young and more experienced swimmers exposure to the highest level of competition within the region. The Carifta Swimming Championships is the top junior amateur swim meet in the Caribbean”. Mr. Ollivierre added, “We continue to urge Government and the Corporate Community to support the development of swimming and the efforts of GASA to provide better facilities for our swimmers. This will enable our swimmers to be able be compete on a level playing field with our regional and international counterparts in the sport”

11-12 Girls: Gabrielle Hyson, Meeka Ollivierre, Mia Neckles, Kimberly Ince & Anaika Charles.
11-12 Boys: Parshawn Haynes
13-14 Boys: Jenebi Benoit
15-17 Boys: Kerry Ollivierre
Open Water :
13-14 Girls: Sydnee Steele
13-14 Boys: Jaydon Hyson
15-17 Girls: Enya Noel
15-17 Boys: Thabo Antoine & Dejanel Williams.
The team will be supported by Peron Johnson and Roshan Hyson (Manager and Chaperone for Pool swimmers) and Chad Hyson and Suzanne Antoine (Manager and Chaperone for Open Water swimmers)
The team is currently training intensely at the Good Hope facility with National Coach Gerson Escobar who confirms they are ready for the competition. The team trains eight sessions per week with early morning and late afternoon sessions.
The Team is in very high spirits and are all eager to go out there as true Grenadian ambassadors, ready to make themselves, family and most importantly country proud.
