Grenadian Students Awarded at Regional Top Awards Ceremony
ST. GEORGE’S GRENADA, DEC. 05, 2016: Jason Phillip, a graduate of the Presentation Brothers College and Sydni Walker, a graduate of the St. Joseph’s Convent Grenville, among other regional candidates, received awards at the Opening of Council and Regional Top Awards Ceremony on Thursday, Dec. 1, 2016, at the Hilton Hotel, in Barbados.
Jason Phillip created history as one of the first students to be awarded a regional top award for the Caribbean Certificate of Secondary Level Competence (CCSLC), while Sydni Walker, is the most outstanding CSEC student, in the humanities, for 2016.
Phillip achieved a Master in CCSLC English and Mathematics, as did Keiana Brown of Northeast Comprehensive School, in Dominica. Phillip also attained a Grade I in CSEC Information Technology, Physical Education and Sport and Electronic and Electrical Technology.
Walker achieved Grade I in ten subjects, which were: Biology, Caribbean History, English A, English B, Geography, Information Technology, Mathematics, Physics, Social Studies and Spanish and one Grade II in Physics.
The award ceremony was streamed LIVE. Attendees at the awards included Permanent Secretary, in the Ministry of Education, Human Resource Development and the Environment, Elizabeth Ruth Rouse; the Principal of PBC, Dominic Jeremiah; Acting Chief Education Officer, Elvis Morain, and the students’ parents.
Altogether, nine Grenadian students who wrote CSEC were acknowledged in 2016, in CXC’s Regional top performers merit listing for outstanding performances in Agricultural Science, Clothing and Textile, Home Economics Management, Principles of Business, Electronic Document Preparation and Management, Physical Education and Sport and Human and Social Biology. This is an improvement compared to 2015, when five students were acknowledged in the areas of Office Administration, Electrical and Electronic Technology, Food and Nutrition and Economics.
The Ministry of Education, Human Resource Development and the Environment congratulates all outstanding performers on their recent accomplishments and wishes them even greater successes in the future.
