Grenlec Increased PM Whitsuntide Donation
The just ended 30th or Pearl Anniversary of the Annual Petite Martinique Whitsuntide festival felt the increase generosity of the Grenada Electricity services (Grenlec).
At the official opening ceremony of the festival last week Friday, Manager of the Company’s Carriacou Branch , Wallace Collins handed over a cheque valued at Six Thousand Dollars ( $6,000.00) to the committee. The donation marked a one thousand dollar increase from Previous years.
In keeping with the company’s new trust of allowing an item of the event represent the symbol of Grenlec’s financial contribution ; Collins who used a Parade flambeau torch for the presentation, says that as a corporate citizen they are always cognizant of the need to support events of this nature which impacts on the cultural and social life of the Natives.
He pointed out that they have been observing the growing nature of the festival and therefore wanted to match such improvements with their contribution. The Local branch manager further noted that the donation also reflects the challenges face by the committee to raise the necessary funds to host a successful festival in a small community as Petite Martinique.
President of the committee, Terrance Logan praised Grenlec for their loyalty to the festival and assured that the Money would be used for the purpose in which it was donated.
The Opening ceremony which had remarks from Chairperson of the festivals Board , Kindra Maturine Stewart was declared officially opened by Senator , Norland Cox.
The two along with Devon King did the honors of handing out prizes of trophies and monetary reward to participants of the festival at Monday’s closing ceremony.
