Internship Opportunity for Young Scientists at the Award-Winning Jessamine Eden Farms
Young career scientists who are graduates of the T.A. Marryshow Community College or pursuing an undergraduate University degree, have an exciting opportunity to participate in a paid internship at the Home of the World’s Best Honey, Jessamine Eden Farms, Grenville Vale, St. George’s. The program is organized by the Caribbean Institute for Sustainable Island Living (CISIL) in collaboration with JECO Caribbean Inc. as part of JECO’s celebration of 25 years of operation in the sub-region.
Founded in 1995 by award winning Environmental Scientist Dr. Valma Jessamy, JECO is the first environmental management and development consulting firm in Grenada and the OECS. The company provides a multi-disciplinary environmental consultancy service for all stages of the project cycle from preparation and feasibility to construction, operation, maintenance, including policy formulation and capacity building. CISIL is a Foundation of JECO Caribbean which focuses on education, advocacy and innovation as it relates to our communities and the environment. CISIL was formerly launched at Jessamine Eden April 2009.
The internship will commence July 12,2021 for a duration of 6 weeks with possibility of extension to three months. Interns will have the rare opportunity to work alongside Dr. Jessamy in three main areas: Plant Propagation, Soil Testing and Apiculture (beekeeping). The Institute offers six internships (2 people per category) and each intern will be paid a stipend. The main aim of the programme is to pass on critical practical skills to the next generation of scientists in Grenada. The application deadline is Friday 2nd July, 2021. Qualifying candidates must have completed an Associate Degree or be undertaking studies towards a bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Sciences, Biology, Horticulture or related fields.
