Local Resort Continues to Support Staff Talents
Since the inception of Sandals LaSource in Grenada in 2014, employees have been exposed to series of initiatives which are put in place to assist their professional and social development throughout their duration at the resort.
According to General Manager of Sandals LaSource, Mr. Peter Fraser, Sandals prides itself on creating a different type of atmosphere for its employees, where they can showcase their talents regardless of which department they work in. “You can’t find this in any classroom. This is special and this is Sandals,” he cheered.
Frasers’ comments were subsequent to the Resort’s annual Arts Festival, which was held on Monday 15 May 2018. Employees, including Managerial staff performed their talents and were judged by some well-known creative enthusiasts. The performers were cheered by the colleagues and guests who thoroughly enjoyed the show. The acts on the night included Spoken Word, Male & Female Vocalists and Male & Female Models.
Seven representatives from different departments of the Resort will be travelling to St. Lucia to represent Sandals LaSource at the international competition, which is scheduled to be held from 3 June to 7 June 2018. There they will meet, eat with, and greet reps from other Sandals Resorts, and compete for impressive prizes, some of which can include recording and modeling contracts among other things.
Alexia Morton from the Entertainment team captured the title of Best Female Vocalist, while Akim Baptiste from Club Sandals got Best Male Vocalist. Nikita McVean from Front Office copped Best Female Model for the second year, and Flyod Gooding representing the Maintenance Department captured Best Male Model and Shamak Duncan from the Entertainment team took the crown for the Spoken Word Category.
Also travelling to St. Lucia are Steven Cyrus and Kimoni Benjamin known throughout Sandals LaSource as Ying & Yang. They represented Sandals LaSource in Jamaica in 2017 in the duo dancing category. Although they were unsuccessful in returning home with the top prize, they posited that they thoroughly enjoyed the experience. “It was a competition, but it was something to learn from,” said Benjamin. This year, since there was no one to compete against them in their category in Sandals LaSource, they will automatically be participating in the competition in St Lucia.
The duo stated that the support they have been receiving from Sandals is tremendous and they are looking forward to giving their all in St. Lucia.
Speaking to the Entertainment Manager, Ms. Ginger Tate, she said, her team fully supports and gives the persons the tools needed to help them with their performances.
This Arts Festival will see talents from Sandals Resorts in Jamaica, St. Lucia, Grenada, Barbados and Turks & Caicos. According to Mr. Fraser, “It’s a festival that’s been going on for over 10 years and let me tell you something, the excitement through all the hotels in the Caribbean is just unbelievable.”
Additionally, he stated that he is confident in Grenada’s selected talents that they will return with prizes this year.
