Ministry of Agriculture Invites Applications to Lease Land at Grand Bacolet Estate Pilot Site
Grenadians interested in farming or agriculture-based ventures are being given an opportunity to lease agricultural land from the Government of Grenada.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Lands and Forestry, in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), Grenada Investment Development Corporation (GIDC) and the Climate-Smart Agriculture and Rural Enterprise Programme (SAEP), is launching a Call for Applications to lease a plot of land at Grand Bacolet Estate, St. Andrew, under the Pilot Agricultural Land Bank Project.
This Project was officially launched in July 2017, with significant financial and technical support from the FAO. It aims to build a pilot land bank in Grenada to facilitate the lease of state-owned agricultural land.
The objective is to reduce idle or under-utilised arable land; improve access to fertile land for landless farmers, women and youth interested in agricultural enterprise/agribusiness; build and enhance the technical capacity of pertinent government departments entrusted with land administration; and improve agricultural production.
Cabinet has approved two pilot sites on Government-owned estates, namely Grand Bacolet Estate, St. Andrew and Diamond Estate, St. Mark. Approximately four acres per plot are available at the Grand Bacolet Estate and are opened to individuals and groups to apply.
To be eligible for selection, applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of Grenada, they must be at least 18 years old and must be residing preferably in, but not limited to, the area in which the land to be used in the project is located.
The process consists of two phases, a Pre-Approval Phase, and a Final Approval Phase. All pre-approved applicants, (individuals and groups), will undergo entrepreneurship training with the GIDC.
- Applicants who are 18-35 years old are required to fill out two application forms, the Land Bank Application Form and the GIDC/SAEP Enterprise Business Development Training Application Form.
- Applicants who are over-35 are only required to fill out the Land Bank Application Form, since they do not meet the age requirement for the EBD Training. However, all pre-approved applicants over the age of 35 will receive a special training with GIDC in Business Plan Writing.
Forms are available at all District Extension Offices or you can click hereand hereto download. All completed forms should be submitted on or before Friday, 7th May 2021.
