NIS Contribution Rate Changes – 9% to 11%
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Government’s stimulus package made provision for the suspension of the 2% increase in the National Insurance Scheme (NIS) contribution rate. The suspension was effective from April to July 2020. During that period persons contributed 9% (employees – 4% & employers – 5%/self-employed persons – 9%).
The NIS advises that effective August 1, 2020, the contribution rate will revert to 11% (employees – 5% & employers – 6%/self-employed persons – 11%).
Please find attached the Amendment to the Collection of Contribution Regulations which was gazetted on July 29, 2020.
