Officers Charged, Public Still Outraged
Public outrage still reigns among Grenadians who share concerns about the length of time the Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF) have taken to lay charges against two Constables whose actions resulted in deaths of two civilians in the month of April.
The officers made their way to the St. George’s Magistrate’s Court on Thursday 10 May 2018, where they faced Magistrate Tamara Gill.
The officers were slapped with the charge of Death by Dangerous Driving almost one month after their incidents occurred. PC Charles’ accident which occurred on April 12 in the south of the island, resulted in the death of a well-known businessman Trevor Renwick. PC Alexander’s accident occurred on the following day in the River Road/Mt Gay area and resulted in the death of a young woman named Betty Ann Lambert popularly known as ‘String Beans’.
Police Constables (PC) Denson Charles, and Randy Alexander were represented by Attorneys at law, Derick Sylvester and Sandina Date, respectively.
The granting of bail was not objected to by Magistrate Gill nor the Prosecution team. Both men were granted bail in the sum of $30,000 with two sureties each. They were also given special conditions to which they must adhere including, surrendering all travel documents and reporting to the Central Police Station (Alexander) and South St. George Police Station (Charles) every Tuesday between 6:00 am and 6:00 pm.
Charles is expected to return to Court on Tuesday 24 July 2018 while Alexander will return on Monday 27 August 2018.
