Official Reopening of St. George’s Market
St. George, 31st August, 2020 – The Ministry of Infrastructure Development, Public Utilities, Energy, Transport and Implementation is pleased to announce that Building 1 and 2 of the St. George’s Market will be re-opened officially on September 1st, 2020, in compliance with COVID19 protocols.
A meeting was held with vendors today, 31st August, 2020 to explain the new arrangements.
The opening hours of the market remain the same: Mondays to Thursdays from 6am to 7pm; Fridays and Saturdays, 4am to 8pm. The market will be closed on Sundays and public holidays unless otherwise informed. The Ministry is appealing to all stakeholders to adhere to the closing time of the market.
The re-registration process for vendors will continue. This applies to vendors who already had booths and were registered with the market before COVID-19. Vending Agreements will be signed with all registered vendors.
Vendors are reminded to make arrangements for the following supplies: sanitizing solution of 70 ml, face coverings and hand soap. Hand sanitizing solutions must be made available for customers, at all times.
The Ministry will issue new ID cards upon completion of the re-registration process.
Cleaning & Inspection Schedule
The general cleaning and inspection will be conducted on a quarterly basis.
COVID 19 Response Plan
The Ministry has appointed two (2) COVID 19-focal points.
Ms. Anastasia Frank, Dues Collector, is the Focal Point for Building 1.
Ms. Cheryl Modeste, Dues Collector, is the Focal Point for Building 2.
The role of the focal point is to report to the Ministry of Health, vendors who are showing symptoms of COVID 19. They will also ensure that all vendors have physical protection equipment (PPE), gloves, face covering and sanitizing solutions as required.
A follow up meeting with “outside vendors and vegetable vendors” will be held on Wednesday 2nd September 2020, at 3:00pm at the Kirani James Athletic Stadium.
The work on the construction of the new Building, listed as Building 3, will commence soonest.
The Ministry anticipates full cooperation of all vendors, customers and the general public and expresses its appreciation to all stakeholders for a successful sanitization of the market.
