Paradise Captures Sandals National U15 Tournament
After two months of competition, Paradise FC International U15 boys was crowned champion of the first Sandals National U15 Tournament. The final took place at Queen’s Park on Saturday 7th April 2018.
The match featured the two teams which dominated Grenada Football Association Premier League for the past 10 years. Both teams came out very aggressively, but Paradise FC International was the better team on the day- taking the lead in the first half converting a goal in the 14th minute of play by player #10, Mitchell Semion.
Paradise launched several attacks and maintained the ball in the opponent’s half for most of the game. Hard Rock’s goal keeper, Jeremiah Brookes stopped many opportunities in the second half but Paradise FC International converted two more chances in the 48th minute and 61st minute by players Rasheed Akintoye and Mitchell Semion respectively.
Semion’s final goal sealed the victory as Hard Rock did not seem to have any fight left in them after going down by three goals to nil.
In an earlier encounter, Queen’s Park Rangers played Grenada Boys Secondary School FC for the third spot. It was a one-sided event as Queen’s Park Rangers scored 12 goals during the encounter, 5 from Deandre Smith, 4 from Darryl Phillip, 2 from Jaden Thomas and one from Trey John.
At the closing ceremony, Deleon Forrester, Public Relations Manager- Sandals Grenada and St. George Parish Director Nigel Gibbs, distributed medals and trophies to the winners. Forrester added, “This first time collaboration between Sandals Grenada, GFA and the Football Clubs, was an exciting journey. We commend the efforts of the parents and coaches who respect the discipline of sport, and help to make the experience worthwhile for the young footballers. Once our young talents are properly nurtured we know the level of play can improve and the doors of opportunity can arise out of their hard work.”
