Police and Prison Officers Charged
Alex Telesford, a police officer, was arrested and charged by officers attached to the Traffic Department for driving under the influence of alcohol. The officer was arrested and charged following a motor vehicular accident that occurred on November 16, 2020. He was granted bail in the amount of five thousand dollars with one (1) surety. He will appear in court on February 19, 2021.
Telesford was suspended from active duty in the Royal Grenada Police Force.
Two prison officers were also arrested and charged on December 4, 2020 for the offences of Disorderly Behaviour, Disorderly Behaviour in a Police Station, Obstruction and Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol.
Marlon Edwards and Lindon Humphrey, both 32 years, Prison Officers of Beaulieu, St. George and La Digue, St. Andrew, respectively; were both granted bail in the amounts of three thousand dollars each, and is scheduled to appear in court on January 19, 2021.
Meanwhile, Lisroy Joseph, 47 years, Fisherman of Pearls, Akim Aberdeen, 21 years, Farmer, of La Poterie and Anthony Edgar, 42 years, Farmer of La Poterie who were jointly charged for the offences of Praedial Larceny and Vagrancy for a quantity of Soursop, were sentenced at the Sauteurs Magistrate’s Court, on December 8, 2020.
They received a total fine of three thousand dollars and were ordered to pay compensation of four thousand five hundred dollars respectively, for the charge of Praedial Larceny. Joseph, Edgar and Aberdeen received suspended sentences of one (1) year, in default, one (1) year in prison, while Aberdeen will serve six (6) months in prison, in default of his suspended sentence.
In a separate incident, Stephon John, 27 years of Moyah, St. Andrew, and Anthony Edgar, 42 years, Farmer of La Poterie, St. Andrew, were jointly charged for the offence of Vagrancy. Both men pleaded guilty and were given suspended sentences of one (1) year and in default, three (3) months in prison.
Also, a teacher at a local tertiary institution was arrested by officers at the Special Victims Unit for indecently assaulting a 17 year old student.
Ali Hinds, a 39 year old resident of Mt. Moritz, St. George, was arrested, formally charged and cautioned on December 9, 2020, after allegation of him inappropriately touching the private parts of the minor was received.
He is presently on ten thousand dollars ($10,000.00) bail with one (1) surety and is scheduled to appear in court on March 8, 2021.
