Prime Minister Mitchell Participates in Fall Meetings of the IMF and World Bank
ST. GEORGE, GRENADA, OCT 11. 2017, (GIS): Prime Minister Dr. the Right Honourable Keith Mitchell is in Washington DC this week, participating in the Annual Fall Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank.
The Prime Minister’s schedule includes a number of high level engagements. Earlier today, Wednesday, October 11, Dr. Mitchell met with the World Bank Vice President for Latin America and the Caribbean, Mr. Jorge Familiar; as well as held meetings with the team members of the Bank responsible for the Caribbean.
On Wednesday afternoon, Prime Minister Mitchell and St. Lucia’s Prime Minister Honourable Allen Chastanet will lead an open session with officials of the IMF and World Bank on disaster assistance for the Caribbean region. This will be followed by a Bi-lateral Meeting with the Executive Director of the World Bank, Ms. Christine Hogan.
Other engagements on the Prime Minister’s schedule this week include sessions with the Head of the World Bank, Mr. Jim Yong Kim and Executive Director of the IMF, Ms. Christine LaGarde.
On Friday, Prime Minister Mitchell in his capacity as CARICOM Chairman and Chairman of the World Bank Small States Forum, will meet one on one with Virgin Group Founder and British Virgin Islands resident, Sir Richard Branson, to discuss the recent devastation in the Caribbean brought on by Hurricanes Irma and Maria.
They will explore possible funding assistance for the affected Islands, among other issues. Their meeting will be followed by a high level ministerial round-table discussion on hurricane response.
The Prime Minister, who left Grenada on Tuesday, October 10, is accompanied in Washington DC by Grenada’s Ambassador to the United States, Dr. Angus Friday.
Dr. Mitchell returns to Grenada early on Monday, 16th. In his absence, Honourable Gregory Bowen is the Acting Prime Minister.
