SAMS is Working on Sunshine!
St Augustine’s Medical Services has recently undertaken the installation of over 40 solar panels, in an effort to reduce overall costs and increase energy efficiency.
Dr. Lutz Amechi, Resident Physician at SAMS stated; “as a progressive institution we are expected to do our part in preserving our planet. With this in mind, we see it as part of our corporate social responsibility to utilise as many natural resources as possible. Being environmentally aware is a global responsibility.” he concluded.
In the initial phase since incorporating the use of solar energy the institution has already realized a 15% reduction in its electricity bills. Although the investment will take approximately five years to pay for itself, the lifespan of the panels is estimated at approximately twenty-five to thirty years, making an obvious and compelling reason for stepping over into this more energy efficient, and environmentally aware, use of power.
Mrs. Allyson Amechi, Administrator at SAMS commented; “we started with small steps, moving from plastic to paper products, the use of Electronic Medical records, electronic prescriptions for in house use, and are happy to have been able to take the much larger step of installing the solar panels.”
