Sandals Sings High Praises
Sandals La Source Grenada Awards its hard working team at Monthly Prestige Awards
Pink Gin Beach, St. George- February 28, 2017– From exhibiting high leadership traits and demonstrating true team work, to their caring and love for the environment and guests, Sandals LaSource Grenada has proudly rewarded several of its team members for living up to the high ideals the company sets, and strives to attain.
In addressing the resort’s recent Prestige Awards for Staff, Human Resource Manager for Sandals La Source, Stephanie Sylvester had one simple but powerful message; ‘Don’t give up!’ It was a sentiment echoed by General Manager Peter Fraser, who went on to state, ‘The fact that you have been nominated means you have stood out among your peers and that your head of department is noticing what you are doing to deliver the premium service we promise. If you have not won, have the courage and humility to go up to the winner and congratulate that person, then you’ve all won.’
Sandals La Source Prestige Awards is a much-anticipated monthly exercise acknowledging the outstanding team players of the previous month. Department Heads submit nominations for the various categories, the votes are tallied and attractive cash prizes and certificates are awarded at a formal ceremony at the resort’s conference room.
Akira Friday of the Food & Beverage Department, in winning the ‘Pace Setter Award’, was specially acknowledged by the General Manager for her initiative and use of her sewing skills to make independence bow ties for her restaurant team. This subtle distinction to the dining attire for Independence Day was not required nor mandated, but Akira and her colleagues made it happen. The bow ties were all handmade, of exceptional quality, and highly complimented by guests.
Another winner, Shamak Duncan of the Entertainment Department was commended for his involvement with Sandals Foundation and received the ‘Sandals Foundation Sentinel Award’. He is a frequent attender of the Sandals Foundation Reading Road Trip, a weekly literacy enhancement program for primary school students.
‘All Rounder of the Month’ was Accountant Randy Lewis, specially recognized by Finance Manager Bernice Alfred for his dedication, outstanding proficiency and leadership skills within the department. The team member most nominated by the guests and winner of the ‘Legendary Talent Award’, was photographer Kemron James. The ‘Circle of Joy ( Smile & Courtesy) Award’ went to Sherieann Mitchell of Housekeeping. The ‘Earth Guardian Award’ went to Circue Dawn Desir of the Spa, for her efforts in conservation and logging of use of resources while the ‘Mover and Shaker/ Most Improved’ was bartender, Anthony Noel.
However, the person copping the most coveted award; the ‘Diamond Talent Award’ which acknowledges the most outstanding team member was Deanette John. Deannette is a longstanding member of the Sandals La Source team. She began as a Wedding Captain in 2014 and has since been promoted to Wedding Planner. She has taken advantage of multiple training opportunities offered by the Sandals Corporate University, gaining certification in Customer Service, Communication, and is currently pursuing additional Hospitality Management Certification.
Sandals La Source Wedding reviews and scores have had an exceptional record, and Deanette has played a key part in that. ‘My Sandals experience has been such an eye opening journey. I have learned about the nitty gritty of Weddings and Hospitality. I have learned about things that I never knew existed! It has truly broadened my horizons and I am grateful for all the friends and professionals I have been fortunate enough to meet so far.’
The importance of Sandals training and staff development has always been key to the resort’s continued success. Sandals Resorts has been voted World’s Best for 21 consecutive years after all. A fact recognised by General Manager Peter Fraser as he reflected on Sandals LaSource’s latest award. “To achieve the high commendations of our resort, such as our recent Gold Badge from the US News and World Report 2017, is not just about the pools, or the fancy liquors or the suites that set us apart, it is you. You are the most important element of this formula.”
All winners of Monthly Prestige Awards get the chance to win the even grander Annual Prestige Awards. The Annual Diamond Talent Winner will represent Grenada at the company’s Ultimate Awards which take place later this year in Jamaica.
