St. Andrew and St. Patrick Continue Winning Streak in GFA U13 Boys Competition

St. Andrew Big Parish Stars and St. Patrick Crown City Strikers continued their winning ways in round 2 of the GFA U13 Boys Tournament. All 6 teams were in action on Saturday August 7 at the River Sallee Playing Field. In match one, St. Mark Western Stars beat St. John Dolphins 2-1. Scoring for St. Mark was Denic Charles and Tyler Augustine while Izion Fraser scored the lone goal for St. John.
St. Patrick Crown City Strikers and St. Andrew Big Parish Stars both won their matches 6-2. Big Parish Stars played St. George Royal Cannons with their striker Delron John converting five times and Tishawn Hood adding the 6th. Jahym Fletcher and Dashon Ledlow scored for the Cannons.
In the St. Patrick Crown City Strikers match against St. David Top Strikers, Raheem Raeburn scored a hat trick while Yazid Ferguson, Nathan McIntosh and Cornelius John also converted. Rohon Moses and Khade Francis scored for the Top Strikers. Kevin McSween whose son plays for the St. John Dolphins urged the young players to embrace the opportunity provided by the competition. “I think it’s a very good initiative and the players should grab it with both hands and see the opportunities presented for the future,” said McSween.
Coach of the St. John Dolphins Carlos ‘Peckos’ Lewis says his team is doing an admirable job however, youth football teams in the parish should have shown more interest. “I would have liked to see participation from Grand Roy and Concord who have many talented players,” said Lewis.
Big Parish Stars Delron John who scored the most goals in the round said, “It was an enjoyable match. I like being a striker and I hope to reach the professional level in the future.” Matches in the GFA U13 Boys Competition will continue on Wednesday August 11 in the parish of St. Andrew from 1:30pm.
