Two Males Charged with St. Mark’s Day Celebration Shooting; Woman Imprisoned for Violation of Privacy; St. Andrew Residents Charged in Connection with Rape
Two Males Charged with St. Mark’s Day Celebration Shooting
Akim Belfon, 24 years old of Dougaldston, St. John was arrested and charged with Attempted Murder, Possession of a Firearm and Possession of Ammunition in connection with the shooting incident which occurred at the Cuthbert Peters Park, Gouyave, St. John on April 30th, 2023.
In another incident which occurred on the same day, at St. John Street, St. Mark, Akim Belfon and Tahj Joseph, 28 year old of Park View, Gouyave, St. John were jointly charged with Attempted Murder, Possession of a Firearm, and Possession of Ammunition.
Belfon and Joseph appeared at Victoria Magistrate’s Court today, and were remanded to custody at His Majesty’s Prison.
They are scheduled to reappear in court on May 22nd, 2023.
Woman Imprisoned for Violation of Privacy
On Friday 5th May 2023, Mazenga John, 43 years old, of Duquesne, St. Mark, was committed to His Majesty’s Prison to serve a term of eleven months and 7 days for non-payment of a fine, after having been convicted for the offence of Violation of Privacy.
Miss John, who was convicted in February 2020, at Gouyave Magistrate Court, was ordered to pay a fine of $25,000.00 by February 2023, or spend one year in prison. Up to the time of her imprisonment, she had paid only $600.00.
Violation of Privacy is a very serious offence, the maximum penalty for which is a fine of $200,000.00 or imprisonment for 3 years, or both fine and imprisonment.
St. Andrew Residents Charged in Connection with Rape
Shakeem Murphy, 20 years old, Carpenter Apprentice along with a juvenile both of Paradise, St. Andrew were arrested and jointly charged by police with the offence of Rape. The offence was allegedly committed in July 2022, at Telescope, St. Andrew.
In a separate incident, Tyron Forteau, 21 years old, Timon Daniel St. Clair, 22 years old, Warehouse Attendant, Trevon Robertson, 19 years old, Unemployed along with two juveniles, all of Paradise, St. Andrew were arrested and jointly charged for the offence of Rape. The offence was allegedly committed on 30th April, 2023 at Grand Lett, St. Andrew.
They all appeared at the Grenville Magistrate’s Court today.
Mr. Murphy, Mr. Forteau, Mr. St. Clair and Mr. Robertson were remanded to His Majesty’s Prison while the three juveniles were remanded to the Grand Bacolet Juvenile Center.
They are all scheduled to reappear in court on Thursday 11th May, 2023.
